It’s not just the ski slopes which are a hive of activity. The streets of Tignes are lined with shops selling everything from local cheeses and mountain souvenirs to the height of fashion skiwear. You can easily while away an afternoon or two wandering in and out of all the stores.
Our best recommendation would be to visit the market on a Sunday in Tigens Le Lac. Lot of traders come and fill the main street with local produce, clothes and keep-sakes. Wandering the streets, you’ll soon notice half the Tignes population are sporting PLANKS clothing. This locally designed label has rapidly become one of the names to know on the professional riders circuit. They have recently opened a coffee shop and clothing store opposite the Tichot lift in Tignes Val Claret. It’s well worth a visit.
Aside from shops designed to tempt you in and empty your pockets, Tignes is a fully functioning town with all the facilities and services you would expect at home. There are banks, newsagents – stocking English papers, a pharmacy, post office, tabac and taxis which now run through the night. We are also fortunate enough to have Doctors in resort who is on hand to deal with anything from coughs, colds and sickness to major trauma.
