If there’s one thing we can say for sure, it’s that Tignes mountains will definitely keep you entertained. From beginners hitting the slopes for the first time to seasoned pros, you’ll certainly be able to make the most of your time in the Alps. Glacier skiing, off piste tours, tree lined runs and pistes for all abilities are ready and waiting on your doorstep. With over 300km of marked runs and high speed links to neighbouring Val d’Isere, Tignes really does have it all!
With a well earned reputation as one of France’s most snow sure and dependable ski resorts, the lifts in Tignes run through from early November to late May. Whether it’s the early season powder or late spring snow you are looking for, you’re sure to find it here.
Staying in Tignes
Tignes is all about the skiing and boarding! There’s no hiding from it, this purpose built ski resort won’t be winning awards for beauty any time soon (although local architecture has certainly been improved in recent years). If you can live with the large apartment buildings and slightly disjointed village centres direct access to the pistes and friendly welcoming people are going to make your holiday, then Tignes will tick all the boxes.
There are 5 smaller villages which make up the resort from Tignes Les Brevieres at 1,550m to Tignes Val Claret at 2,100m. All, with the exception of Tignes Les Brevieres are well linked by free busses and offer direct access to the huge ski area. Tignes Le Lac and Tignes Val Claret are the largest of the villages with the most on offer.
Once the lifts have closed and the sun is setting, Tignes continues to be a vibrant and lively resort. There are many bars, restaurants and clubs that come to life in the evening. From the table top dancing in ski boots, which can not be missed, to civilised cocktails in upmarket hotels and an abundance of restaurants offering local and fine dining cuisine it’s a wonder that heads ever hit pillows!
If partying to the extreme isn’t your style, fear not, there are plenty of shops and cafes as well as a weekly local market and and many more organised activities that can be enjoyed.
